About Natural Gas Appliances
Home Heating
A high-efficiency natural gas heating system will keep you warm and draft free, even on the coldest of days. Natural gas heat is up to 97% efficient. Upgrading to a higher efficiency furnace can reduce your natural gas consumption, decrease your carbon footprint and can help you save money on your natural gas bill. That means you can enjoy the warmth without paying for wasted energy.
Water Heating (Tank/Tankless Water Heater)
According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, water heating is typically the third largest energy expense in your home, accounting for about 14 percent of your energy bill. If your water heater is more than 10 years old, it probably operates at less than 50 percent efficiency.
Using a high efficiency natural gas water heater is more efficient, results in lower carbon emissions and costs less than those powered by other fuel sources. A water heater’s efficiency, or Energy Factor (EF), is usually listed beside the EnergyGuide label. The higher the number, the more efficient the water heater. By choosing a water heater with at least a .62 EF, you can reduce your energy use every month and save on your utility bill over the course of the 10 year life of the water heater.
For even more efficiency, a tankless water heater heats water on demand, only when you need it. This reduces stand-by energy loss from unused water left to cool in the tank. Install a natural gas tankless water heater near the point of use and you could save hundreds of gallons of water a year simply by reducing the amount of cold water standing in the pipes between your water heater and faucets.
