Virginia Natural Gas Invests in Its Communities, Announces 2003 Grants

April 16, 2003

In keeping with its tradition of giving back to the communities it serves, AGL Resources Inc. (NYSE: ATG), parent company of Virginia Natural Gas (VNG), announced grants totaling $85,000 for low-income energy assistance programs and economic development projects in the Hampton Roads area.

Paula G. Rosput, chairman, president and chief executive officer of AGL Resources (AGLR), and Hank Linginfelter, president of VNG, announced two grants for Virginia nonprofit organizations:

  • Tidewater Salvation Army (Norfolk, Va.) -- $75,000 for energy assistance
  • Hampton Roads (Virginia) Economic Development Alliance -- $10,000 for economic development

The community grants were announced at an event held Tuesday night at AGLR's corporate headquarters in Atlanta to salute its nonprofit partners and state and community leaders in the areas in which the company does business: Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia and Texas. The guest list included elected and appointed officials as well as community leaders and company board members.

Accepting the grants were Major Gene Hogg, commander, The Salvation Army, and C. Jones Hooks, president and chief executive officer, Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance.

AGLR also announced additional grants to various community, economic development and education groups in the communities it serves in Georgia, Tennessee and Texas.

"Our company takes great pride in the deep roots we have in our communities," said Rosput. "From employees volunteering with the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics to our corporate donations to the Salvation Army and the Economic Development Alliance, we are committed to investing in Virginia."

Rosput began hosting the community leadership dinner three years ago as an opportunity for members of the AGLR board and management team to get to know leaders of the communities served by the company's subsidiaries. The company holds it annual shareholder meeting today in Atlanta.
