Virginia Natural Gas Announces New Award To Honor Community Leaders

February 9, 2004

NORFOLK – Virginia Natural Gas, a subsidiary of AGL Resources Inc. (NYSE: ATG), announces the establishment of the Virginia Natural Gas Shining Light Award, which will be given annually to an outstanding Virginian who has inspired the lives of others through community service.

Nominations are now being sought for the first Shining Light award to be given to a Virginian. Applications are due by 5 pm. March 12. Forms are available at the VNG website, www.VirginiaNaturalGas.com, or nominations may be submitted in a letter of no more than two pages.

A similar award has been given for the past 40 years in Georgia, where it is sponsored by VNG’s sister company, Atlanta Gas Light Company.

“In Georgia, the Shining Light Award has come to epitomize the best and the brightest, outstanding men and women who have had the vision to lead their fellow man to greater things,” said Hank Linginfelter, president of VNG. “We are proud to be able to bring this prestigious award to Virginia, whose residents have a strong history of statesmanship and community service.”

The Shining Light Award was established in 1963 to recognize outstanding Georgians. Past recipients include: former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young, baseball legend Hank Aaron, former Georgia Governor Zell Miller, educator Martha Berry, civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. and former United States president Jimmy Carter, to name a few.

Like Georgia honorees, Virginia recipients will be honored with a continuously burning gas light and bronze plaque erected in a prominent place.

“The eternal light from these old-time gas lights will serve as a continuous reminder of those who have lighted the way for us all,” said Linginfelter.

Nominations may be mailed to Virginia Natural Gas Shining Light Award, 5100 East Virginia Beach Boulevard, Norfolk, VA, 23502, e-mailed to nsmith@aglresources.com or faxed to 757-466-5437. Nominees must be residents of Virginia who have made outstanding contributions to the community.

A luncheon honoring the recipient will be held in late spring, when the light will be unveiled
