Cathie J. France joins AGL Resources as Director Governmental Relations

NORFOLK, Va. – Oct. 4, 2006 - AGL Resources recently named Cathie J. France Director of Governmental Relations, for Virginia Natural Gas.

France is responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of the company’s federal and state legislative agenda. She will also serve as liaison with the Virginia General Assembly, the Virginia Congressional delegation and other governmental bodies.

“Cathie’s experience includes a solid background in regulatory issues,” said Jim Kibler, vice president of governmental relations for the Mid-Atlantic region. “She has an in-depth knowledge of Virginia government, thanks to the years she spent tracking legislation and handling issue advocacy as a senate aide.”

AGL Resources, an Atlanta-based energy-holding company, serves 2.2 million customers in six states through its utility subsidiaries, including Virginia Natural Gas in southeast Virginia.

Prior to joining AGL Resources, France served as legislative counsel and director at the Vectre Corp., a public affairs agency in Richmond, Va. There she handled regulatory issues and advocacy for clients such as Sentara Healthcare, the Virginia Association of Commercial Real Estate, Itinere and EDS.

For two years, she was the chief legislative and political aide to State Senator Ken Stolle (R-Virginia Beach). She served as an assistant staff attorney at the Norfolk Sheriff’s office from August 1999 to January 2000 and as senior assistant commonwealth’s attorney for the City of Virginia Beach from January 2000 to September 2004.

France is a member of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, the Central Business District Association and president-elect of the Cape Henry Rotary Club. She is on the board of directors of Prevent Child Abuse Hampton Roads; a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #8; and an American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team Captain.

France holds a bachelor’s degree with honors from James Madison University in political science and speech communications. A member of the Virginia State Bar, she received a juris doctor with honors from Georgia State University in Atlanta.

She lives in Virginia Beach with her husband and their two children.
